Stolen IOM yacht at Portishead Lake
Last Sunday (29th Jan) Andy Harding’s IOM No 17 yacht was stolen soon after the mornings racing had finished at Portishead Lake. He had already taken off the boats keel plus bulb and put it with his TX in his car, but then went over to help to put away the rescue boat and buoys and it seems that someone then nicked his boat.
It seems amazing that someone would walk off with a metre long boat presumably with its sails still attached and in broad daylight! This does remind us all try and avoid leaving anything unattended even for a few minutes. A good deed by Andy might have cost him dear, which somehow makes it worse. I’ve never known any model boat related items being stolen while we were at Apex - but there is always a first time!
The boat is a Brad Gibson SKA, glass skinned balsa with a No.1 Sails Etc rig.
Colour is dark grey metallic sides/under and orange decking with white bumper.
4017 hull number on rear deck coaming and inside front port hatch. It also had a RX and 950 lipo pack.
Distinguishing features are; SKA transfer on aft bulkhead, a well deck drain pipe that exits the aft bulkhead just above water level and 3 inch diameter aluminium winch drum.
