SYS Series 2017
Round 2 - 12th March 2017
With a fleet of 13 skippers (3 guests) and a gentle but consistent breeze the second round of the SYS Series began just after 10:00am.
The course was set as a squashed triangle close to the shore in an attempt to take advantage of what wind there was coming from the right of the slipway. For the second consecutive round the MC/Kit class had the most skippers taking part, a trend that seems likely to continue.
It was decided to sail two laps of the course, which provided some close racing at the front of the field. However by coffee break we had only completed 4 races. And as the breeze faded and turned slightly, it was decided to shorten the races to one lap. The racing got much tighter with close battles across the whole fleet for the remaining races.
Alan Barnstable and Mike Lewis (RTR class) had some good battles but the skippers from the MC/Kit class, Rod Butler, Chris Lewis and Kevin Roberts had a real tussle for the lead, which lasted almost till the last race.
At the end of 11 races it was decided to call it a day.
Congratulations to the eventual winners Alan Barnstable (RTR) and Rod Butler (MC/Kit).
