SYS Series 2017

Round 5 - 30th July

With several skippers on holiday the number of competitors were a little down on previous rounds, but with a breeze and the forecast of dry weather the first race began around a one lap rectangular course with a longer reach to the finishing line.

After the first race and a good breeze the course was extended to two laps which proved to be the best option with some good racing across the whole field.

At coffee break it was close between Russ (7) and Alan (9) in the RTR class and Kevin (88) and Rod (116) in the MC class.
The long finishing reach proved to be the deciding factor in quite a few different races with skippers loosing many places by either tacking too early or being in the wrong place on the course.
With everyone being RO once by race 9, the last race of the day saw all the skippers on the water at the same time, and yours truly proved how easy it is to be in the wrong place from a winning position to coming 5th in the space of 5m from the finishing line.

We just about finished clearing away the rescue boat when the heavens opened and it began to rain heavily.

Congratulations to Russ (7) RTR and Kevin (88) MC in winning this round, we are now over half way through the series with overall scores for the series very close in both classes.

Next SYS round is September 24th.

SYFRC meet is at Apex in two weeks time on August 13th.
